Bridging from the Physical to the Digital world

Bridging from the Physical to the Digital world

Industry’s next revolution? What is my “UBER” or “AirBNB”? A question increasingly heard in the boardrooms of classic engineering, manufacturing and production industries. How will the digital disruption that these organisations bring to their sectors, impact the industrial world? Nobody knows disruption in business models better than industrial organisations. Now arguably in the fourth industrial revolution, this sector now has to embrace the latest challenges, with whole industries changing, new operating models emerging, increased traceability needs, growing expectations on industrial companies driven by consumer experiences, greater difficulty attracting talented employees, and the relentless drive for frictionless transactions with suppliers, customers and employees all bringing pressure on existing processes, information and people. Since 2000 over 50% of the Fortune 500 have disappeared. To survive and thrive through this disruption, industrial organisations need to bridge to this digital world from the physical world in the things that they make, how they make them and how they stay in-touch to be relevant to their products and customers as they operate throughout the lifecycle. They need to design and build those bridges, and identify key patterns for success. This talk will discuss how to consider and plan for these new patterns that will provide us smarter ecosystems populated with smarter products, designed and delivered by smarter enterprises.
