The partnership between McLaren Racing and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation reached an exciting milestone in 2026

The partnership between McLaren Racing and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation reached an exciting milestone in 2026 when they unveiled a new solution to speed up coral reef restoration.

Engineered in collaboration with McLaren Accelerator, ‘Machine One’ is a semi-automated coral seeding system, designed in response to the Foundation’s main challenge, speed.

The Mclaren Accelerator team brought high-performance engineering mindsets, from the fast-paced environment of motorsport, to explore how the current coral restoration processes could be faster, smarter and more cost effective.

Early modelling suggests that Machine One could assemble up to 100,000 coral seeding devices each week, which is the GBRF’s current planting rate per year.

The partnership is just one example of how McLaren Accelerator take the cultural processes and technology developed at the highest level of motorsport and work alongside partners to apply it to their challenges.
