Bullfrog Technologies: Automated in-process inspection for high-rate, low-waste composites manufacturing
Bullfrog Technologies is a UK NDT inpection technology company based in Fareham, Hampshire, funded through the ATI SME Programme. Working with industry and academic partners, we develop practical inspection technology for composites production.
Composite defects are typically identified at end-of-line NDT inspection, after all value-adding processes are complete. Scrap rates can reach 30%, and NDT queues can account for 15–20% of total manufacturing time.
Bullfrog Technlogies is building an end-to-end automated NDT system based on active thermography, designed to move inspection into the manufacturing process. It enables:
- Early defect detection, before further value is added &increased confidence on final inspection
- Reduced scrap and part cost
- Lower inspection costs
- Manufacturing process data to support quality and process control
We have validated post-cure inspection, with pre-cure inspection on our capability roadmap. Alongside product development, we currently provide consultancy services and projects for:
- Manufacturers assessing thermographic inspection for their parts and processes
- R&D teams developing or evaluating next-generation CFRP materials
