Our award winning technology delivers lightweight advanced composite structures at higher volume, lower cost and with much greater sustainability.
We produce braided preforms (woven socks of advanced composite material) which are then consolidated (heated under pressure in moulds) and can also produce fully assembled products.
We can produce the preforms on our highly automated machines at rates of a mile a day per shift. This greatly reduces the labour required reducing costs significantly while also increasing repeatability.
Once we have produced a preform we consolidate it. Typically we use composite fibres such as carbon, glass, basalt, or natural fibres combined with thermoplastic matrices such as polypropylene, nylon, PET and PPS. Many other fibres and plastics are available.
The consolidation can be for low volume, but we have developed a rapid low energy consolidation process that allows us to consolidate parts in minutes with much lower energy use. For example one tube that used to take 2.5 hours and 70kWh of energy now uses just 1.5kWh in under 5 minutes.
We also have very low scrap rates and can re-use most of our production scrap getting wastage rates below 1%.
The low energy and low waste combined with the inherent benefits of composites gives us a great sustainability capability.
