Flextrack
Drilling accurate holes is important in all arenas of manufacturing and assembly. Current lean operations demand a new approach to cutting costs and staying flexible, while staying proficient at demanding jobs. Lightweight portable automated drilling machines are now finding themselves competing with large machine tools drilling complex structures.

Assembly Line Solutions
Electroimpact have supplied a complete turnkey factory solution for the manufacture of Airbus’s A350 aircraft wing. The facility, located in Broughton, North Wales UK, is purpose built for the assembly of Airbus’s first commercial carbon fibre composite wing. Electroimpact proposed the overall factory layout and multiple assembly station designs involving flexible automation solutions.

Robots
Electroimpact is the world-leading robotic system integrator for aerostructure assembly and fabrication. With over 130 systems deployed in production across five (5) continents, EI boasts a 100% project success rate. We can meet and exceed our customers’ challenging requirements and offer a wide range of solutions. The production-hardened Accurate Robot is our most widely-used motion platform utilizing the EI-patented robot enhancement architecture (US 8989898 B2.) We are also experienced OEM integrators with multiple successful installations based on Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) robots. Electroimpact doesn’t just deliver a piece of equipment, we deliver a process. Whether that’s drilling and fastening, milling, additive manufacturing or anything in-between, Electroimpact has grown vast expertise working closely with military and commercial aerospace customers around the globe to develop and deliver high-quality, reliable systems.

Additive Manufacturing
Electroimpact has integrated an in-situ out-of-autoclave thermoplastic AFP process and an advanced FFF 3D printing process into a unified Scalable Composite Robotic Additive Manufacturing (SCRAM) system. SCRAM is an industrial true 6-axis continuous fiber-reinforced 3D printer, which enables the tool-less rapid fabrication of aerospace-grade integrated composite structures. High-performance thermoplastics combined with a high percentage of continuous fiber reinforcement are used to produce parts with exceptional material properties previously unheard of in the world of additive manufacturing. This technology has no equal in the industry and is a unique offering available only from Electroimpact.

Composites Manufacturing (AFP & ATL)
Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) and Automated Tape Laying (ATL) modular processes available on a range of motion platforms for Aerospace and other composite fabrications.

AFP 4.0
The amount of capital equipment that is required for modern composite airframe production is untenable for future aircraft programs. AFP 4.0 offers a pathway to getting 4-8x the throughput with the same capital investment used in past programs. Primarily this is done by taking actions and developing technology that will drastically increase the utilization of our AFP equipment.

Automated Fastening
The E7000 riveting machine is Electroimpact’s solution for fastening of pre-tacked aircraft panels. The E7000 was designed from the beginning with the goals of achieving industry-leading speed and reliability. A highly rigid machine structure enables operation at high feed rates. Systems are customizable, and are presently in production manufacturing a wide variety of parts, including both commercial and military fuselage panels (metallic and composite), wing structure, and cargo doors. Both Fanuc and Siemens controllers are available.

SHARD
SHARD is a low-cost, single-function drilling robot targeting ancillary aerospace structures. The small footprint combined with an optimised, lightweight end effector, simplifies integration into existing facilities.

Automatic Drill Riveter Cell
The Electroimpact Automatic Drill Riveter (ADR) combines a number of Electroimpact’s core competencies to provide an elegant and flexible design solution. The offering consists of a stationary Electro-squeeze C-frame riveter, coupled with a robot part positioner to present the component to the process head tool point. The C-frame can install a wide range of aerospace rivets and perform specialist functions including backside countersinking operations, giving potential for double flush fastening. The geometric limitations and high implementation costs of large cartesian based positioning barges or fixed jig tooling and moving gantry riveters are avoided when exchanged for a robot part positioner. To achieve the high levels of accuracy and repeatability required within the industry the robot part positioner is a KUKA KR1000L750 upgraded with EI proprietary Accurate Robot Technology delivering +/- 0.25 mm large volume global accuracy. Critical to the success of the system is high speed and seamless communication between the robot and C-frame, this is achieved by deploying a Siemens 840D CNC as the singular central controller handling the robot motion control, riveting process and cell safety features. With twenty-seven individual servo driven axis’ working in harmony to perform the core manufacturing functions the single 840D controller allows for a more efficient and simplistic control architecture. This automation is suited to manufacture small and medium sized aerospace assemblies such as flaps, doors and spoilers
