About us

Hive Composites is a specialist technology development and testing company based near Loughborough, UK. Specialising in all aspects of composite research, design, development, testing and certification, HIVE staff have led and been involved in cutting-edge global projects, such as:

• Design, development, and testing of spoolable high pressure Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) for oil and gas applications and hydrogen distribution.
• Design and development of the world’s first 13.6m thermoplastic composite semitrailer
• Manufacture of recyclable wind turbine blades using in-situ polymerising thermoplastics
• Manufacture of spoolable thermoplastic composite high pressure oil/gas pipelines to API 15S and DNVGL-RP-F119 international standards.
• Design, development and testing of crash-friendly composite signposts/streetlights to EN12767 safety standard.

Hive has comprehensive test facilities including:

• hydrogen permeation, exposure, and Rapid Gas Decompression testing
• TCP test facilities including burst, cyclic, regression and spooling tests
• mechanical testing up to 150kN
• drop weight and Charpy impact testing
• filament winding machine for prototyping pipes and tubular structures
• bespoke structural test frames for testing poles, pipes etc

Hive utilises the latest CAD and FEA design software for client projects and works closely with specialist supply chain partners such material suppliers, manufacturers, and testing companies.
