About us
HTMS Composites has developed a class of materials known as Inorganic Matrix Composites (IMCs). IMCs provide a cost-effective alternative to traditional Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs), delivering in-service temperature performance from 300°C to 1,400°C while maintaining a cost profile closer to that of conventional polymer composites.
This was enabled by an innovative inorganic matrix chemistry that allows the use of conventional reinforcement fibres, including carbon, glass, basalt and alumina fibres. As a result, IMCs can achieve up to a 90% reduction in cost per square metre compared with incumbent CMC technologies.
Additionally, compared to conventional CMCs, IMCs reduce cure times by more than 12 hours and lower processing temperatures by up to 1,200°C, resulting in substantially lower energy consumption and production costs, generating less CO2 per kg of material than a Titanium Alloy, CMCs.
2) IMC Key Characteristics
i. Suitable for continuous service temperatures between 300°C and 1,400°C.
ii. Can be co-moulded with Polymer Matrix Composites (PMCs)
iii. Low density (1.3–2.0 g/cm³)
iv. Compatible with multiple reinforcement fibres, including glass, carbon, basalt, mineral, and alumina
v. Manufacturable using autoclave curing, oven curing, and press moulding.
vi. Non-combustible and fully inorganic.
