Busbars
At H V Wooding, we specialise in the manufacture of copper and aluminium busbars for use in switchgear components, control panels, panel boards, fuse gear, and transformers. We produce busbars to specification, down to 0.3mm (copper) and 0.5mm (ali). Our applications range from utilizing polyolefin and PVC for 11KVA switchgear in the energy and rail sectors, to more complex busbars for EV/Hybrid battery systems that are coated with a range of insulation materials, including resicoat HGF03R (red), HFG03R (orange) and Nylon BB, to achieve ratings between 1.5 and 5KV. As a leading UK manufacturer, our diverse range of manufacturing techniques allows us to produce a wide variety of custom-designed busbars to meet specific requirements. This includes large-scale projects involving thousands of variants as well as small-scale, single part orders with minimal or no tooling costs. Our technical team, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a customer-focused approach, delivers high-specification products to various industries. Quality is of paramount importance to us, and as a leading British manufacturer, H V Wooding is fully certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. We are also members of the SMMT, the Confederation of British Metal Forming, British Safety Council, and Fit for Nuclear.

Stators / Rotors / Laminations
At H V Wooding, we are renowned for our expertise in the fabrication of complex Motor Laminations and Core Packs. Utilizing state-of-the-art processes, we have the capability to achieve even the most stringent tolerances in a variety of Silicon Steels and Cobalt materials. HV Wooding has been providing Motor Lamination support for nearly four decades, utilizing advanced Wire EDM, Laser Cutting and Stamping technologies. We have the capability to offer options in the production of bonded lamination stacks through pre and post bonding techniques, tailored to meet customer requirements. As leaders in this field of technology, we are able to add value to your project. Pre-bonded wire eroded stacks are commonly used for prototyping and initial testing. We can then scale up production using laser cutting, stamping and post bonding to satisfy customer requirements. Our primary focus within this realm is centered on the demanding and intricate high-end motor applications. We possess years of experience in working with a broad spectrum of materials and intricate geometries, enabling us to meet the demands of the cutting-edge industries. At H V Wooding, we offer exceptional technical knowledge and nearly four decades of wire erosion experience. Our processes have been evolved for high-volume production and we provide expert technical advice and demonstrations. Our services include prototype components and tooling, reverse engineering for special projects, and we are ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 certified, with FMEA/SPC capabilities. We specialise in wire-eroded laminations for high-end motors, catering to industries such as Aerospace, Formula 1, and Defence. Our high-quality metrology department, equipped with CMM and Quick Scope, ensures that we deliver products of the highest quality.

HV Wooding team up with Nuclear AMRC to target £1m electrification boost
We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in securing funding through the Faraday Battery Challenge to develop a new powder coating process for parts destined for electric vehicles. H V Wooding will be working with materials and engineering researchers from the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) and the University of Sheffield to improve the quality of the busbars for the electrification market. Supported by Innovate UK through the Faraday Battery Challenge, the project focuses on investigating and developing alternative coating methods that will improve the performance and integrity of the critical components, which carry high-current power between different parts of an electrical system. “Current coating methods are difficult to control, with a high level of components rejected because of poor quality insulation,” explains Paul Allen, Sales Director. “There is currently no standard specification or process availability, and our new method will contribute supply chain capability and capacity for battery and energy storage applications.” “We will develop a best practice testing method to standardise quality assurance where there is currently no international standard, and this could generate up to £1m in additional sales to our business.” “Powder coated insulated busbars are safer than heat shrink sleeved alternatives. They have better thermal and electrical performance alongside other benefits in compact battery design – for example saving up to 10% clearance and creepage distance. “If the innovative and optimised epoxy powder coating process is implemented it will definitely open up new markets and will lead to new skilled jobs in our area. “The successful project will support the overall goal of the Faraday Battery Challenge and scale-up British busbar manufacturing for battery modules and packs in accordance with the UK’s Ten Point Plan for a green industrial revolution.”
Wire Erosion
For nearly 40 years H V Wooding has specialised in Wire Erosion / Electronic Discharge Machining, where we have developed the highest levels of expertise to become true market leaders. Ongoing investments into our Wire Eroding services mean we remain at the forefront of this technology. An Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) is utilised in a manufacturing process widely used in the precision cutting of components for various industries including electronic manufacturing, medical, aerospace and military sectors. The process consists of the creation of an electrical spark to precisely cut complex, detailed and smaller shapes that wouldn’t be possible with conventional cutting machines. H V Wooding produce a varied scope of wire eroded components from prototyping and small batches for F1 to volume production for multinationals across sectors including Aerospace, Medical, Research, Automotive, Electric Motors, Electric & Hybrid vehicles & Defence. We have expertise in motor laminations via Electronic Discharge Machining (EDM) – in the form of individual pieces and pre-bonded stacks.
