About us
Hydra develops hybrid manufacturing technology for difficult-to-process materials, including advanced ceramics and hardmetals.
Hydra’s flagship product is the Ceramic Hybrid Additive Manufacturing Platform (CHAMP), which combines paste extrusion, green-state machining and in-process inspection within one machine. CHAMP enables the geometric freedom of 3D printing with machining before sintering to improve surface finish and dimensional control. The process utilises water-based pastes, which simplifies feedstock formulation, and allows for a wider range of materials that are unsupported by existing light-based processes, such as SiC and cemented carbides.
CHAMP includes our patent-pending extrusion system, which optimises the flow of material, streamlining the development of new material formulations. Combined with our in-process monitoring system, CHAMP reduces the likelihood of defects occurring and allows for corrective actions to be performed mid-print, saving material, energy and time. The combination of speed, precision and reliability removes obstacles from development cycles, creating new opportunities for next-generation ceramic parts.
By bringing deposition, green-state machining and inspection together, CHAMP provides a more controlled route for developing complex ceramic and hardmetal components and evaluating new material and application opportunities across aerospace, defence, energy and biomedical sectors.
