SIGMATEX
About us
For well over 30 years, Sigmatex has been a pioneer in the design, development and manufacture of carbon fibre textiles to the composites industry. As one of the world’s leading independent converters of carbon fibre, Sigmatex supplies advanced composite materials that make a positive difference to people’s lives throughout the automotive, aerospace, marine, energy, space and sports and leisure markets.
From our state-of-the-art manufacturing locations in Europe, America and Asia, we are unleashing the unlimited potential that carbon fibre has to be a technology enabler. With the widest array of conversion technologies available, coupled with an unrivalled range of carbon fibre grades, including recycled materials, our innovative, customised carbon textile solutions are truly designed for performance.
Our philosophy of ‘Design for Performance’ starts by identifying a clear definition of a customer’s specific requirements. Our highly experienced team of textile designers and material engineers provides unrivalled expert support and technical advice about how to optimise the use of carbon fibre fabrics. This includes fibre selection, textile architectures, fabric processability and cost. The Sigmatex team will support your journey from concept to finished
Sigmatex develops and manufactures carbon fibre textiles for composite material applications. From global locations, Sigmatex supplies spread tow, 2D woven, unidirectional, multiaxial (non-crimp), 3D and recycled textiles across a broad range of industries. Sigmatex's proven capability converts millions of pounds of carbon fibre each year for major projects that require high levels of quality and reliability.
Sigmatex works with customers to create carbon fibre textiles which meet various requirements including fibre orientation, crimp, drapeability, thickness and resin permeability. These textile solutions often require an innovative approach to textile design and process which is the core strength of Sigmatex.
Products & services

sigmaST
The sigmaST range of spread tow fabrics are very thin, are ultra lightweight, have near zero crimp and fewer interlacing points. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, this technology has improved mechanical performance at a reduced thickness and cost when compared to standard 2D fabrics using 1K fibres.

sigmaRF
sigmaRF fabrics contain reclaimed carbon fibre, resulting in products that are sustainable and cost effective. sigmaRF is suitable for many applications which currently use virgin carbon fibre-thermoplastic materials, and is especially applicable to the automotive, sports and leisure, medical and energy sectors.

sigma2D
Sigmatex offers an unrivalled range of woven fabric constructions such as plain, twill and satin weave patterns and also more complex designs for visual and performance applications, along with standard, intermediate and high modulus fibres. Sigmatex’s computer controlled looms also allow the use of ultra-high modulus and un-sized fibres which are very delicate and require precise process control.

sigmaFT
The sigmaFT range of advanced carbon fabrics benefits from light area weight, high closure level and a flat structure. Designed using proprietary weaving technology that enables the inline spreading of both the warp and weft tow bundles, the end result is cosmetically attractive, consistent and offers improved process-ability due to its closure level. Applications include advanced structural parts in Aerospace, Space, UAV and Automotive sectors Product Attributes: Produced from standard and intermediate modulus fibers Low FAW at 195gsm using standard modulus 12K fibre Improved tensile strength vs 3K fabrics Low crimp and zero tow twist Thinner profile enabling higher volume fractions High closure levels Available in a variety of widths up to 1524mm (60”)

sigmaUD
Utilising carbon fibers in just a single direction, unidirectional fabrics are produced in a wide range of weights with a variety of stabilising methods such as stitching, thermoplastic and scaffolding yarns. This technology is mainly used in the wind energy sector but is also increasingly being used in automotive applications, where localised reinforcement in a specific direction is beneficial. Applications include infrastructure repair, marine, wind blades and Automotive parts such as battery enclosures and chassis reinforcement Product Attributes: Low crimp Lightweight fabric construction from heavy tow fiber All modulus fibres can be processed Highly stable fabrics – particularly with thermoplastic weft bonding. Suitable for long aspect ratio parts Large rolls sizes available

sigmaMX
Multiaxial Non-Crimp Fabrics (NCF) integrate advanced fiber spreading techniques, high conversion speed, adjustable angle laying heads and the capability to manufacture multi-layer fabrics at variable widths. This technology offers zero crimp for maximized mechanical performance, with typical applications including automotive components, aerospace structures and marine vessels Product Attributes: Improved mechanical performance compared to woven materials Layer ply weights from 50gsm Fabric area weights from 100gsm to 1800gsm Multiple layers and fiber orientation options Optimised stitch design to suit drape requirements Option of powder bonding to support pre-forming Fibre options from 12K to 50K
