Why We’ve Invested in EDM: Taking Metrology Beyond the Surface
Precision EDM sectioning and 3D scanning expose inaccessible internal features in turbine blades and complex castings, enabling dimensional inspection, CAD comparison and validation where surface measurement can't reach.
Inspecting the internal geometry of turbine blades and complex castings presents a particular challenge. Critical features such as cooling passages, internal channels and wall thicknesses can be difficult to access and measure using conventional inspection methods.
At Delta XD, we combine precision Wire EDM sectioning with optical 3D scanning to make these internal features accessible for detailed dimensional inspection.
By carefully sectioning components and scanning the exposed surfaces, we can capture internal geometry, compare measurements against CAD data and help engineers assess whether components meet their design requirements.
This destructive inspection approach is particularly useful for complex metallic components where CT scanning may be impractical due to size, material or inspection requirements.
In our latest blog, we explore how this integrated approach supports internal casting inspection, turbine blade validation and quality control, providing engineers with valuable measurement data from areas that would otherwise remain inaccessible.
