Photocatalysis Instrument - Design and Manufacture Project
GSK, a prominent pharmaceutical company, sought to enhance the speed and yield of drug production through photocatalysis. Previous approaches using broad spectrum fluorescent lighting had yielded inconsistent results, and so GSK approached Solsta with a request to design an instrument capable of testing the optimal wavelength and power level of LED illumination for specific reactions in drug production. The challenge was to develop an instrument that could be used to determine the optimum wavelength and power level of LEDs for photocatalysis. The instrument should accommodate cassettes of 48 LEDs at single wavelengths, allowing for concurrent use of 48 sample vials. It should also enable the selection of specific power settings with continuous adjustment, support constant or pulsed light operation with a variable duty cycle, offer a range of wavelengths for direct comparison, and be compatible with both batch chemistry vials and flow chemistry plates. Working closely with the scientists at GSK, Solsta successfully designed an instrument that addressed these requirements. It features cassettes with 48 LEDs at single wavelengths assigned by GSK, enabling controlled test parameters. The optical power can be set to a specific level with continuous adjustment, and the LEDs can be operated in either constant or pulsed mode. An additional cassette using 24 LEDs provides balanced optical output power across six different wavelengths for direct comparison of results. The instrument is designed to accept housings for batch chemistry vials or a flow chemistry plate, accommodating different experimental setups. The instrument enables GSK to determine the optimum optical power and wavelength for photocatalysis of different chemistries, leading to increased drug yield while minimising byproduct generation. Solsta’s collaboration with GSK in this successful project showcases their expertise in developing customised instruments for pharmaceutical applications.

Phototherapeutic Mask - DFM and NPI Project
The patented lightfusion™ photofacial system is a proven phototherapy treatment which energises skin cells, rejuvenates skin and helps to promote collagen and elastin which are essential for the fight against the aging process. The lightfusion system is a professional grade light emitting diode device for the treatment of periorbital wrinkles and pigmented skin. The lightfusion phototherapy mask incorporates LED devices that deliver an optimised and controlled level of red and near infra-red light, essential in boosting cellular processes and promoting healthier skin. The light emitted is red at 633nm+/-5nm, and NIR at 830nm+/-5nm. The small portable controller unit launches the treatment cycle at the touch of a button. The lightfusion™ LED is a new cost effective way to deliver advanced, non-invasive photofacials in a matter of minutes. We took lightfusion’s base design and applied “design for manufacture” processes, transforming it into a product that could be reliably produced in high volume. We created new firmware and circuit board layout for this novel LED device. Our Design and Build team offers a complete end-to-end solution for optoelectronic and display projects. Building on our experience of supplying specialist components and displays, we can take your optoelectronic project or custom display assembly from an idea or concept, through specification, design, prototyping and pre-production into full production.

PICODENTOR HM500
PICODENTOR HM500 is Fischer's highest performance indentation measurement instrument. Normally, only very elaborate and extremely costly measurement instruments offer similarly high resolution and the corresponding accuracy of force and travel measurement. By contrast, PICODENTOR HM500 combines high-end technology with simple operation. A programmable XY-table, which allows positioning of the samples with an accuracy of ≤0.5 µm, makes it suitable for demanding measurement tasks such as the automatic analysis of extremely small measurement areas. The bundled WIN-HCU software not only enables intuitive use of the measurement instruments, it also allows fast and simple determination of numerous material parameters and the dynamic mechanical analysis for small samples.

Piezoelectric Pressure Sensors
Piezoelectric sensors contain crystal sensing elements which convert a mechanical or thermal input into an electrical signal, normally a charge output. Piezoelectric Pressure Transducers are used for measuring dynamic pressure or acoustics in extreme environments. They are often used for measuring dynamic pressures in Engine In-cylinder Combustion, Aero & Gas Turbines, Ballistics and even Plastic Injection moulding and Machine Control. Piezoelectric Pressure Sensors exhibit fast dynamic response, extreme ruggedness at high temperatures to 850 Degrees. Custom solutions are readily available including the full measurement chain of cable, connectors, insertion/extraction tools and signal conditioning amplifiers.

Plain Press Fit Drill Bushes
These drill bushes are normally used for jigs where an economically priced drill bush is required, or where less space is available on the jig plate. Headless press fit bushes are pressed into the plate to achieve a flush surface in conjunction with a simple drilling and reaming operation. Headless drill bushes have less resistance than the headed type when subjected to large axial loads. These bushes are denominated by the PP reference for metric drill bushes and P for the imperial bush.

Planning & Scheduling | DynamxMFG
Planning on a whiteboard only works until things change Most small manufacturers plan on whiteboards, spreadsheets, or in someone’s head. It works until a job is late, a machine goes down, or a priority order lands at 4pm on a Friday. Then everything unravels. See what you have committed and what you still have room for The Demand Scheduler maps every open work order against your production calendar. Drag unscheduled jobs into day, week, or monthly buckets. A live capacity bar shows exactly how loaded each period is – and turns red before you overcommit. The diary view overlays production demand against available capacity so you can check before you promise a delivery date. Filter by production date, received date, or required-by date to find where the pressure is. Know your capacity before you commit to dates The Planner gives you every open work order on one timeline. Drag jobs into the days, weeks, or months ahead and watch capacity fill up in real time. When a work centre is overloaded the bar turns red, so you can rebalance the plan before the shop floor feels it. Reschedule by dragging between time slots. Spot conflicts before they become missed deliveries, and quote new orders against capacity you can actually see. One plan replaces the spreadsheets, the whiteboard, and the version that only lives in the planner’s head. Make sure materials are ready before production starts Kitting releases the component pick list to the goods and kitting team before the job hits the shop floor. Pickers use the Advanced Interface to pick, transit, and confirm each item – so when an operator starts a job, everything is already at the bench. Materials are automatically allocated to work orders when a sales order is released. Where stock is short, purchase demand is raised immediately. The gap between “order released” and “materials confirmed” is closed.

PMI Foam – High-performance structural core
PMI (Polymethacrylimide) foam is a high-performance closed-cell structural core developed for lightweight composite structures requiring exceptional mechanical properties, thermal stability and dimensional accuracy. Available in a wide range of densities, PMI foam combines outstanding compressive strength, high stiffness and low weight, making it the preferred solution for demanding applications in aerospace, motorsport, automotive, marine, defence and high-performance sports equipment. Its optimized cell structure ensures an excellent balance between low resin absorption and strong skin-to-core adhesion, making it particularly suitable for vacuum infusion, prepreg, vacuum bagging, autoclave, RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) and VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding) processes. PMI foam also enables one-shot sandwich manufacturing (co-curing), reducing production time and improving process efficiency. The material can be easily thermoformed or CNC machined to produce complex geometries and ready-to-use core kits tailored to specific project requirements. Available in different densities to meet a wide range of structural and manufacturing needs.
