Beyond clear lenses: managing light and glare in engineering
Indoor lighting and outdoor glare present very different visual challenges. Explore how CBR65 and CBR23 lens filters use different light transmission and blue light reduction levels to support vision in demanding environments.
Safety eyewear is designed to protect against physical hazards, but engineers also work in environments where bright lighting, reflective surfaces, screens and sunlight can affect visual comfort and clarity.
The uvex CBR lens filter technology range has been developed to manage these conditions by combining contrast enhancement, blue light reduction and relaxed vision. Two lens options, CBR65 and CBR23, provide different levels of light transmission for indoor and outdoor environments.
CBR65: designed for bright indoor environments
Engineering, inspection and production tasks can demand sustained concentration, often under bright LED lighting or while using screens. uvex CBR65 has 65% light transmission and filters high-energy visible light between 380 and 450 nm by up to 50%.
Its tint is designed to enhance contrast and provide clearer vision, making it particularly suitable for indoor applications where bright light, reflective surfaces and changing conditions can place additional strain on the eyes.
CBR23: managing outdoor glare
For engineers working outdoors, uvex CBR23 provides a darker tint with 23% light transmission. It reduces blue light by up to 95% at 450 nm and is designed for outdoor applications in bright sunshine.
The lens enhances contrast to help wearers distinguish objects more clearly in high-glare conditions, which can be particularly beneficial for tasks requiring concentration and precision.
Choosing eyewear for the visual environment
The key is selecting safety eyewear for more than the physical hazard. Lighting, glare, reflections, visual demands and whether work takes place indoors or outdoors should also influence lens selection.
With CBR65 designed for bright indoor environments and CBR23 for outdoor glare, engineers can select a filter suited to the conditions in which they actually work.
