New DEViCoRe Project Launched to Accelerate UK Composites Recycling Supply Chain

The Innovate UK-funded DEViCoRe feasibility study has launched to tackle the barriers preventing the UK from establishing a commercially viable composites recycling supply chain.

Led by Composites UK, DEViCoRe brings together Avalon Consultancy Services and Naion to identify practical solutions that will accelerate the adoption of recycled composite materials across UK manufacturing.

Although technologies capable of recovering fibres and resins from composite waste have advanced significantly, the UK has yet to establish the connected supply chain needed to deliver recycled materials at commercial scale. DEViCoRe will identify the commercial, logistical and strategic actions required to bridge this gap and move composite recycling from successful innovation to widespread industrial adoption.

The project comes at a critical time for the sector. Research by the NCC in 2022 found that only 6% of fibre-reinforced polymer composite waste is reused in secondary applications. Meanwhile, increasing recycled content requirements, end-of-life legislation, rising landfill costs and the prospect of future landfill restrictions are driving demand for sustainable recycling solutions.

Building on two industry workshops held in 2025, DEViCoRe will turn identified challenges into an actionable roadmap. The project will collect market and supply chain data, assess UK and international recycling business models, identify commercially viable opportunities, develop a "Grand Challenge" proposal for a larger collaborative programme, and engage with organisations including ATI, APC, UK SHORE and Innovate UK to explore future funding.

Running for nine months from 1 July 2026, DEViCoRe will lay the foundations for an economically sustainable composites recycling supply chain, improving resilience, reducing the carbon footprint of UK composites manufacturing, creating new business opportunities and strengthening the sector's international competitiveness.
