SME Manufacturers encouraged to get involved in the West Midlands’ drive to be at the forefront of sustainable innovation and investment
The West Midlands has long been synonymous with reinvention.
As the region continues to grow through advanced manufacturing, digital technology and green industries, the West Midlands Investment Zone is helping create the conditions for future success.
A key part of this ambition is the Supply Chain Transition Programme, a fully funded initiative supporting manufacturing SMEs located within the Investment Zone to diversify, innovate and access new markets.
Funded by the West Midlands Investment Zone and West Midlands Combined Authority, the programme provides one-to-one specialist coaching, technical support, leadership development and access to research and development funding.
Leading the Investment Zone is Steve Bowyer, who has overseen delivery since its launch in 2024.
"The Investment Zone is one of government's most comprehensive economic interventions," says Steve. "Alongside investment in development sites and infrastructure, we're investing directly into businesses through programmes like Supply Chain Transition to help them grow and innovate."
The Investment Zone focuses on major growth opportunities across Coventry & Warwick, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, supporting sectors ranging from battery development and green industries to life sciences and digital innovation.
Steve believes the Supply Chain Transition Programme will play a vital role in helping local businesses seize these opportunities.
"The West Midlands has always been characterised by entrepreneurship and innovation. By helping businesses understand their strengths, identify new supply chain opportunities and explore new markets, the programme supports growth and resilience."
For Steve, success is about more than investment figures and job creation.
"I want to hear real stories from businesses and individuals whose lives have been improved through these opportunities."
His message to SMEs is simple: embrace new opportunities, think beyond traditional markets and seek expert support.
