Behind the booth: Stories from the Show Floor – meet PRF Composites Materials

London, 18//10/23

  1. What motivated your company to participate in this year’s Advanced Engineering UK event?

It’s the coming together of not only the advanced composites industry, but also the full advanced engineering community; we come to meet constructors and discuss how our materials can help them increase productivity, quality and efficiency, and improve sustainability – lowering cost-per-part.

  1. Can you provide a sneak peek into the solutions you’ll showcase at the event?

We’re showcasing a number of our materials at Advanced Engineering this year, including two that are featured on the Innovation and Sustainability trails: REEPREG – on both the innovation and sustainability trails – is our new prepreg material made with recycled chopped carbon mat. We also have RP570 FR eXpress cure on the innovation trail. RP570 FR is our fire-retardant, ultra-fast epoxy prepreg system that is tested to aerospace FST requirements. RP570 FR has also been shortlisted for a Composites UK Industry award in the category of Innovation in Composite Materials this year, so we are very excited to be bringing it to the show. We have our Q.tool prepreg tooling technology on display at our stand. And we are supporting the ThrustWSH team, to whom we are material sponsors, in the display of the quarter scale concept model of the ThrustWSH boat in the Composite Networking area.

  1. Are there any industry-specific challenges or opportunities in the UK market that your products or solutions address?

Sustainability has to be at the forefront of product development and the materials we have at the show all offer improved sustainability with lowered energy consumption in processing, reduced plastic consumables and – with REEPREG – reduction of landfill waste and increased circularity of composite materials. We are also looking at how our materials can help our customers lower their cost per part – which is key in our competitive industry.

  1. How does your company contribute to sustainability and environmental considerations in the engineering industry?

Our product development is driven by helping our customers achieve superior results, and we are now looking at how our materials can also provide improved sustainability. In this pursuit, we are developing ground-breaking materials that: use less energy to transport and store; have reduced impact in processing; use less consumable plastic – in manufacturing, processing and packaging; and use recycled composite materials, to reduce waste and extend product life cycles, such as REEPREG. We are also working on our operations and manufacturing processes to reduce our impact and reduce consumable plastic and landfill waste.

  1. What ongoing efforts does your organisation make to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and maintain a competitive edge in the market?

Composites is a highly advanced, innovative and competitive industry, as such we are always working at the cutting-edge in terms of product development. However, rather than look to what our competitors are developing, our focus has always been on what our customers need – what material can we develop that would enable them to meet their goals – and this focus enables us to produce market-leading products such as our RP570 FR eXpress cure.

  1. What networking opportunities or collaborations are you hoping to explore during your time at the event?

Our collaboration with the ThrustWSH team is extremely exciting – to be part of such a groundbreaking project – so we are looking forward to catching up with the team at the show. We are also attending the Composites UK Industry Awards dinner, as a shortlisted company, and are looking forward to being part of that celebration of the UK Composites Industry

  1. Can you highlight any keynote speeches, workshops, or sessions related to your field of expertise that you’re particularly excited about?

Without a doubt, Richard Noble’s time on the Main Stage at the show is going to an absolute highlight, so we are very much looking forward to seeing him there.
