National Apprenticeship Week 2026: Advanced Engineering backs apprenticeships to close the skills gap

National Apprenticeship Week 2026 highlighted how apprenticeships deliver real skills, real opportunity and real impact across the UK. From new training centres to inspiring career journeys, the week showcased the role of work-based learning in building the industry’s future talent pipeline.

Through its #MINDTHEskillsGAP campaign, Advanced Engineering championed apprenticeships as a key solution to critical skills shortages in UK engineering and manufacturing. By bringing together employers, education providers and future talent, the campaign raised awareness of how apprenticeships support both entry-level careers and reskilling.

Advanced Engineering also used the week to recognise the people, companies and organisations actively investing in apprenticeship programmes, including Make UK, Quaker Houghton, the Gene Haas Foundation, Michael Jones from Merlin Entertainments and Northumbria University.
