NEBOair brings world’s only type-certified fully-electric aircraft to the NEC, Birmingham for the Advanced Engineering Show.
Visitors to the Advanced Engineering show will see NEBOair’s Pipistrel Velis Electro, the world’s only Certified fully-electric aircraft currently on the open market, displayed at the NEC for the first time. The Velis Electro is a revolutionary aircraft that points the way to a future of sustainable aviation training.
Most pilots, whether they go on to fly fastjets, airliners, bush planes or just fly for fun, learn to fly in a single-engine, two-seat aircraft. The Velis Electro now offers pilots the opportunity to begin their training in a fully-electric aircraft. This is not an experimental aircraft or a prototype; it is commercially available and is already in the air, enabling fully electric flights today. While the Velis Electro is significantly better for the environment, the cost of operation is comparable to a conventional aircraft
The Velis Electro is a key element of the UK’s Jet Zero strategy and is leading the way by promoting Sustainable Flight Training. The introduction of these aircraft into the UK’s flying schools can have an immediate impact on emissions produced from Flight Training. While this is only a small part of the challenge when it comes to decarbonising the aviation industry, it is a key strategic step and ensures that future decision-makers have a positive, engaging and real-world touchpoint with electric flight.
Kerry Wilmot, Co-Director of NEBOair Ltd, and Head of Project & Infrastructure Management commented “The aviation industry has a long way to go in its bid to reduce emissions, and it is a battle that is going to be won with small but significant changes. Flight Training is an exciting time and a hugely influential time. We believe that the fully-electric Pipistrel Velis Electro, along with improved infrastructure for electric aircraft, can help to light a path towards a future of sustainable aviation. There are moments when we need to take a step and grasp the opportunity when it presents itself. The UK government and the aviation industry have set ambitious goals, NEBOair exists to help facilitate this movement towards sustainable aviation and we believe that the Velis Electro is a key component in this fight. We are delighted to be able to bring the aircraft to the Advanced Engineering Show.
