Just now, I am again writing, or should I rather say “continuing to write”, my product history. Would I ever have existed, if humanity not had that dream – that dream of flying?
Who is asking this question? That’s me, the HELICOIL® Smart. I am the latest and youngest member in my product family and a stainless steel coil thread insert.
Well, and I can rightly say that I create high-strength joints.
The foundation was laid with the invention of an innovative radial engine for the Caminez 447. There was a lot of pioneering spirit involved in the development and construction. Out of that came the first coil thread inserts for which a patent was granted for vibration-resistant screw joints of spark plugs in aluminium aircraft engines in 1938. Until 1950, they were optimised for use in common screw joints.
And then, it all really took off. In 1954, Böllhoff, a family business from Germany, understood how special my thread technology actually was and quickly bought the licensing rights. In 2021, the international trademark rights followed suit. Böllhoff regards me, the HELICOIL® Smart, as a quantum leap they took in 2019.
A holistic approach was chosen to develop my HELICOIL® Smart system. It takes my strong points into account thus resulting in an optimisation of the production processes and a significant reduction in the TCO (total cost of ownership) on the user’s side.
I offer the following advantages:
– No more installation tang break-off and removal
– Installation without loss of performance for any automation degree
– Further reduction in installation space (installation depths for blind holes)
It goes without saying that you also benefit from the well-known advantages of the established HELICOIL® thread technology. Then, as now, I have been creating high-strength joints in low-strength materials.
